H.S. BOYS’ BASKETBALL: Rock Creek knocks off Medora

Brown, Nzombi lead Lions to 90-41 victory

SELLERSBURG — Will Brown scored 25 points and eight assists and Gedeon Nzombi finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds as Rock Creek Academy ended Medora’s five-game winning streak with a 90-41 home victory on Monday.

The win was the third consecutive for the Lions, who improved to 12-9 heading into Friday’s regular-season finale against Cannelton.

“The energy level was good,” Rock Creek coach Chris Brown said. “[Medora is] a good team. They have eight wins and have been competitive with a lot of teams. The week before sectional, you have to have effort. We had that. Our effort was phenomenal.

Brown and Nzombi were two of four Lions in double figures. Tanner Gerth had 15 points on 5 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc and Devin Burt added 14. Five other Lions scored at least three points in the victory.

“That’s decent balance,” Chris Brown said.

Will Brown continued his hot play. He had 19 points in Friday’s 89-41 win over Madison Shawe. In Saturday’s 66-56 victory New Washington, he finished with 15 points, eight assists and six steals.

On Monday, he went 6 of 9 from deep as Rock Creek was 14 of 29 as a team from the 3-point line.

“I thought Will played well,” Chris Brown said of his son. “People have been keying on him, but his confidence is high. He’s had a good run here the last couple games. He’s a gym rat. Good things happen to kids like that.”

Kam Flynn scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Hornets with 19 points. Rock Creek held Medora’s top two scorers — Roy Edwards and Bryce Cockerham — to a combined seven points.
