BORDEN — Borden got all they could handle from visiting West Washington on Tuesday. The 5-14 Senators were no easy test for the Braves, making Borden earn the 37-34 win.

“Both teams played really good defensively,” Borden coach Doc Nash said. “On the offensive side, it was a pretty ugly game.”

The Braves struggled the whole game offensively and needed a pair of free throws by Garrett Vick with 18 seconds left to ice the victory.

The free throws gave Borden a 3-point lead and the Braves locked down on the final possession and didn’t allow West Washington a game-tying shot.

The Senators got off to a dreadful start and only scored three points in the opening quarter. The stiff Borden defense only allowed three players from West Washington in the scoring column all night.

With a 30-18 lead entering the fourth quarter, Borden allowed the Senators back in the game.

“They did a great job getting back in the game. They fought hard in the fourth,” said Nash.

Zack Gilliam was the only Brave in double figures with 13 points. Josh Vollstedt scored nine and Vick’s clutch free throws were his only two points.

The Braves move to 15-4 on the season and host 2-16 Salem on Senior Night Friday.
