H.S. ROUNDUP: Vollstedt leads Borden past Salem, 45-42

Rock Creek thumps Cannelton, 70-55

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Braves ended their regular season on a high note with a 45-42 win over 2-18 Salem on Friday.

“It was an emotional night, it being Senior Night,” Borden coach Doc Nash said. “We were able to make a couple plays down the stretch to pull out the victory.”

Both teams got off to poor starts. Salem scored just one first-quarter point and Borden’s Garrett Vick shouldered the scoring load netting all eight Brave first quarter points.

Both teams opened up in the second quarter. Josh Vollstedt caught fire for Borden and scored 13 of its 17 points in the frame. Salem put together 15 points of their own sending the game into the half with a 25-16 Borden advantage.

Salem got back into the game after the break, and closed the gap completely entering the final quarter knotted at 33.

In the fourth quarter the Braves tightened up on defense and were able to make the timely plays to close the regular season at 16-4.

Vollstedt finished with a game-high 20 points and hit four of the team’s five 3-pointers. Vick added 11 points for the Braves.
