Two Hoosiers earn All-America accolades

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Floyd Central High School graduate and University of Louisville pitcher Jeff Thompson was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America third team on Wednesday.

Thompson has an 11-1 record this season with a 2.00 earned-run average and 109 strikeouts. Seven of his 16 starts have been scoreless outings, and opposing batters are hitting just .169 against him.

This season, Thompson was named the 2013 Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year and is a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.

Teammate Nick Burdi also was named an NCBWA All-American. Burdi made the second team as he has 16 saves this season with a 0.78 ERA.

Two Indiana University players have both received All-America honors this week.

IU junior infielder Dustin DeMuth has earned a second-team spot on the Perfect Game’s All-America squad and the third team of the Baseball America’s All-America team. DeMuth has a .389 batting average this year with 24 doubles.
