LITTLE LEAGUE ROUNDUP: New Albany bests Creek to set up championship rematch

Charlestown 9-10s pick up first win

NEW ALBANY — New Albany’s 11-12-year-old All-Stars held off a late rally by Silver Creek to stay undefeated in pool play Monday night with a 4-3 victory at Grant Line Elementary School.

Kelsey Adams, Camri Thomas and Bre Shcoenfeld each had two hits for New Albany.

The two teams will meet again in the District 5 championship game tonight at 7 p.m. The champion will go to Lebanon beginning July 11 for the state tournament.


• Charlestown beats Clarksville for first victory:
Charlestown won its first game of the district tournament, outscoring Clarksville 10-6 on Monday. Landon Kruer hit a two-run double, and Kolby Mappins scored three times for Charlestown.

• Bergman’s walkoff hit secures win for HYR: On Sunday, Mac Bergman’s hit in the bottom of the sixth drove in the winning run for HYR, which defeated Silver Creek 9-8.

• New Albany hits pair of grand slams in 20-1 drubbing: On Sunday, New Albany scored all 20 runs in the first three innings to overpower Clarksville, 20-1.

Austin Oppel and Josh Castleman each hit a grand slam and had 5 RBIs each for New Albany.

Ray Reisinger pitched the first two innings for New Albany, allowing no runs and one hit while striking out six.

Castleman pitched the final two innings and picked up the win. He struck out six and allowed one run on one hit.

New Albany accumulated 17 hits and had 19 RBIs as a team.


• New Albany hits three homers in 12-0 win:
New Albany smacked three home runs to defeat Charlestown, 12-0 on Sunday.

New Albany’s Dylan Clark hit two three-run homers and teammate Kevin Smith launched a grand slam.

One of the home runs by Clark, who also hit a game-winning home run to beat HYR in New Albany’s opener, impressed New Albany manager Kevin Ricketts.

“I've been coaching in this league for 16 years and that's one of the longest shots I've ever seen,” Ricketts said. “The ball was still on its way up as it cleared the trees.”

Clark, Smith and New Albany’s Nolan Keeler each combined to pitch a shutout.
