H.S. BOYS' BASKETBALL: Devils hang on to beat Dragons, 72-63

Williams, Harvey score 21 apiece in victory

JEFFERSONVILLE — After threatening to blow the roof off Johnsion Arena in the early going, the Jeffersonville Red Devils had to withstand a furious fourth quarter rally in order to remain undefeated in this young season as they turned back Silver Creek 72-63.

Following a first half that saw the Red Devils put together a 19-2 run in building a 40-22 halftime lead, they led only 58-55 with just over three minutes left.

The Red Devils’ Myles Harvey then hit 2 of 2 at the line with 3:09 remaining. Silver Creek pulled as close as four at 65-61 as Gabe Bauer converted a 3-point play with 41 seconds left, but it would get no closer as the Red Devils overcame seven fourth-quarter turnovers by converting 10 of 12 free throws.

Silver Creek led in the early going by as many as five and led 13-9 before Jeff ended the quarter with six straight points, four by Keenan Williams, to lead 15-13.

Jeff then shot a scorching 10 of 16 in the second quarter, including four 3-pointers, in building their lead. Williams and Harvey each had 13 points at halftime for the Red Devils.

Silver Creek stopped the bleeding somewhat in the third period, but still trailed 56-41 entering the fourth quarter.

Jeff, which had only four turnovers despite the pace through three quarters suddenly had trouble holding on to the ball. Williams scored to open the fourth quarter for Jeff.

From there, the Dragons scored 14 straight points.

Williams and Harvey each finished with 21 points for Jeffersonville. Dionte Allen finished with 11, 10 of which came in the second half after going to the bench with two early fouls.

Bauer finished with a game-high 22 points for Silver Creek. Zach Davidson and Christian Reed each scored 13 points for the Dragons.

Both teams return to action tonight as Jeff travels to face unbeaten Clarksville, while the Dragons will host New Washington.
