Baker to play in North-South Classic

Baker to play in North-South Classic

Jeffersonville senior Darryl Baker will play for the South squad in the North-South Indiana All-Star Classic on Sunday, April 14 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. The event is sponsored by Hoosier Basketball Magazine and Pacesetter Sports of Terre Haute.

The girls’ game will tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at approximately 4 p.m.

Baker was named this year’s News and Tribune Area Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 23.4 points per game this past season for the Red Devils. He has made a verbal commitment to attend Lamar University, an NCAA Division I school in Texas.

HBCA All-District teams announced

The Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association has announced its All-District teams for the 2012-13 season.

Seven area players made the HBCA District IV boys’ squad. They are Providence’s George Knott and Dalton Duley, Charlestown’s Aaron Daniel and Chris Braun, Clarksville’s Aidan McEwen, Eastern’s R.J. Jackson and Floyd Central’s Drew Hussung.

Three Silver Creek players made the HBCA District IV girls’ team in Alex Tinsley, Alexis McFarland and Emily Clayton. Borden’s Leslie Beatty also earned a spot on the squad.

A few of these players will compete in the 2013 HBCA All-Star games on Sunday, April 21 at Tecumseh High School. In the boys’ game, Knott, Duley and McEwen will play on the HBCA East All-Star team. Tinsley will be on the HBCA East All-Star squad in the girls’ game.

Jeff boys’ golf scramble, banquet

The Jeffersonville High School boys’ basketball team will host its golf scramble and banquet on Sunday, May 19 at the Jeffersonville Elks Club golf course, 1820 Charlestown Pike, Jeffersonville.

The golf scramble will now only have one flight instead of two. The flight will begin at 1 p.m. The banquet will start at approximately 7 p.m.

Entry fees are $240 per team and $60 per individual. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and dinner at the banquet dinner. Checks must be made payable to Jeff Boys’ Basketball Boosters.

Golfers are asked to sign up by teams. Individuals who register will be assigned to a team.

C’town man wins wheelchair division at Papa John’s 10 Miler

Charlestown resident Chad Johnson won the wheelchair division at the Papa John’s 10 Miler last Saturday in Louisville. Johnson’s time was 55 minutes and 30 seconds.
