COLLEGE BASKETBALL: IUS men advance in KIAC Tourney

Grenadiers top Point Park, 99-94

NEW ALBANY — All five IU Southeast starters scored in double figures as the Grenadiers survived a challenge from Point Park in the opener of the Kentucky Indiana Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

Cameron Mitchell scored 22 points, Aishon White finished with 21 and Jake Simpson added 20 as the No. 2 Grenadiers earned a 99-94 victory to stay unbeaten against KIAC opponents this season.

Vernon Payne scored 13 and Kegan Clark had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

IU Southeast will face Berea — a 82-79 winner over Asbury — in Friday’s conference semifinals at Alice Lloyd in Pippa Passes, Ky. Alice Lloyd and Brescia will face off in the other semifinal.

GRENADIERS WOMEN UPSET

The No. 4-seed IU Southeast women dropped a 74-71 decision at the hands of Berea in Tuesday’s KIAC opener.

IU Southeast led 41-35 before being outscored 39-30 in the second half.

Heather Wheat paced the Grenadiers with 21 points in the loss. Mary Dye added 18 points and 13 rebounds for IU Southeast.

Johnesha Warren had 21 points for Berea, which will play No. 1 seed Point Park in Friday’s KIAC semifinals at Alice Lloyd.
