H.S. BOYS' BASKETBALL: Warriors hold off Trinity Lutheran

Hayes scores 24 to lead CAI to 54-51 win

SEYMOUR — On Monday night, Christian Academy got over the .500 mark with a 54-51 victory at Trinity Lutheran.

Senior Aaron Hayes led the Warriors with a game-high 24 points. Teammate DeVonta King recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Christian Academy outscored the Cougars (7-13) 13-2 in the second quarter to take a 25-15 lead at halftime.

With the Warriors up 40-30 at the end of the third quarter, Trinity Lutheran made a run at Christian Academy in the fourth quarter. The Cougars got within 53-51 in the closing seconds on a bucket by Luke Stuckwisch, who matched Hayes’ game-high output of 24 points.

Hayes hit the front end of a one-and-one to give Christian Academy a three-point advantage, but he missed the second foul shot. Trinity Lutheran’s Craig Stuckwisch misfired on a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the final buzzer.

The Warriors have won five contests in a row.

NEXT: Christian Academy (10-9) at Crothersville (8-10), tonight.
