H.S. ROUNDUP: Reister powers Hornets past New Washington, 11-1

Henryville senior smacks two homers in SAC victory

HENRYVILLE — Senior Cody Reister drilled two home runs to lead the Henryville baseball team to an 11-1 home victory in five innings on Monday against Southern Athletic Conference rival New Washington.

Reister ended up going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. He also was the winning pitcher to improve his record to 3-2.

The Hornets’ Cody McAfee and Elijah Weeks each collected two hits. New Washington junior Danny Nix got the loss on the mound.

NEXT: Henryville (6-4) at Eastern, today; New Washington will host Crothersville, Wednesday.

• Pioneers fall to St. Xavier: Class 2A No. 6 Providence suffered its second loss of the season, losing to visiting Louisville St. Xavier on Monday 6-3.

The Pioneers’ Ben Shahroudi collected three hits. Teammate Jon Davis smacked a two-run triple in the bottom of the third to tie the game at three.

NEXT: Providence (8-2) hosts South Central, today.

• Eastern loses to Brownstown: Dustyn Miller collected Eastern’s lone two hits in its 4-0 home loss to Brownstown Central on Monday. Miller was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits in a complete-game effort.

NEXT: Eastern hosts Henryville, today.


• Henryville falls to Brownstown: Host Henryville gave up two runs in the first inning and three runs in the fifth to fall to Brownstown Central on Monday, 8-2. The Hornets’ Emily Hollis smacked a homer, while teammate Ashtyn Kaskie was the losing pitcher.

NEXT: Henryville at Providence, Thursday.

• Hornets drop two at Paoil: Paoli beat Henryville twice on Saturday, 2-1 and 14-7.

In the 14-7 loss in the second game, Hollis went 5-for-5 with two doubles and three triples. On the day, Hollis was 6-for-7 with a walk. Also in the second game, Audrey Vanmeter was 3-for-4 with a double.


• Borden boys, girls both win: The Borden boys’ team won eight events to win a triangular meet at Clarksville against the host Generals and Christian Academy.

The Braves’ Brian Eurton and Brett Williams each won two events. For Clarksville, Marquise Parrish prevailed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and Christian Brown won the long jump and 110 hurdles.

The Borden girls’ team won a dual meet versus the Warriors at Clarksville. The Braves’ Carson Casey won the shot put and discus, while teammate Leslie Beatty was first in 400 and 800. Kimberly Thompson led Christian Academy with victories in the 100 and 200.

NEXT: Borden with New Washington at Henryville, Thursday; Clarksville and Christian Academy at North Harrison Invitational, Friday.

• Dowdell leads Red Devil boys to second in Indiana/Kentucky Challenge: On Saturday, senior Tyrell Dowdell won three events to lead the Jeffersonville boys’ team to a second-place finish at the second annual Charlie Siesky Indiana/Kentucky Challenge in Evansville. Dowdell took first place in the 200, the 400 and the 800 relay, earning the Athlete of the Meet award.

• Jeff’s Ford wins shot at Heart of the Bluegrass meet: Nycia Ford won the shot put to lead the Jeff girls to a ninth-place finish at the Heart of the Bluegrass meet in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday.
