H.S. VOLLEYBALL: Warriors fall to No. 3 Indy Lutheran

With young team, CAI expects to be back

LOOGOOTEE — Christian Academy hung tough in all three sets against Class A No. 3 Indianapolis Lutheran at Saturday’s Class A Loogootee Semistate.

In the end, however, the Warriors couldn’t take a set from the Saints in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 semifinal loss.

“I am proud of the girls' effort today,” CAI coach Walter Pauly said. “They never gave up, they worked hard, but we still made too many errors that we need to correct. Indiana Lutheran was a very good team.  They served great and took us out of system.  They are one of the best blocking teams we have faced all year, and their passing was excellent.”

Junior Krista Boesing led the Warriors with nine kills, followed by freshman Sierra Rayzor’s seven. Boesing also had nine digs and a block. Alex Falcone led CAI with 19 assists and Ezra Staggers had a team-best three aces.

Whitney Hoover led the Saints with a game-high 11 kills. Casey Koons had eight blocks and Casey Colgate finished with 28 assists.

Christian Academy’s season comes to a close with a mark of 27-7, its second straight sectional title and the program’s first regional crown on Tuesday.

We had a phenomenal season, although this is not the way we wanted the script to end,” Pauly said. “We believed we could get here since the beginning of the season, and we believe we will be back..”

The Warriors are expected to return nearly all of their vital cogs next seasons and what should be another record-setting season.

We have a strong foundation that was laid years ago, and we are looking to build on that next season,” Pauly said.
