IU Southeast to host Champions Dinner

The IU Southeast athletic department will host its first-ever Champions Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 24 in the Hoosier Room at IU Southeast.

The dinner is designed to honor student-athletes and raise funding for IU Southeast athletic scholarships. Awards will be given to the Male and Female Athlete of the Year, and the inaugural event also will honor former IU Southeast men’s basketball coach and first athletic director, Jim Morris, by introducing the Jim Morris Champions of Character Award. The award will be given annually to a student-athlete who exemplifies strong moral character, sportsmanship and the core values of IU Southeast.

In addition to the dinner and awards, the Champions Dinner will honor some significant moments in the history of IU Southeast athletics and will feature highlights and accomplishments from the 2012-13 athletic season.

IU Southeast athletics has experienced a lot of success recently. This year’s men’s basketball team advanced to the school’s first-ever NAIA Final Four and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll, its highest ranking ever.

Last May, the Grenadier softball team advanced to the program’s first NAIA Softball Final Eight. Last season, five out the seven athletic programs at IU Southeast won Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Most impressively, more than half of Grenadier student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for achieving a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

One main objective of the Champions Dinner is to re-engage former Grenadier student-athletes. The Champions Dinner is a perfect forum for past teammates and friends to return to campus and relive the glory days of playing collegiate athletics.

If you are a former student-athlete and are interested in attending this year’s dinner, contact Grenadier athletic director Joe Glover at joglover@indiana.edu.

Visit the Champions Dinner website at www.ius.edu/champions for the latest updates including award winner biographies, event details and ticket information.

Individual ticket prices will be announced at a later date. Sponsorships for the Champions Dinner also are available at varying levels.

Please contact the IU Southeast athletic department at 812-941-2432 or at athletics@ius.edu for more information or to become a sponsor.
