WARRIORETTES GET BY EASTERN

Class 2A No. 18 Eastern was even at 20 with Scottsburg midway through Thursday’s Mid-Southern Conference contest.

However, the Muskteers turned the ball over on their first five second-half possessions and could never recover in a 55-42 loss.

The Warriorettes made 21 of their 24 free-throw attempts, including 11- of-12 in the fourth quarter, to keep Eastern at bay. Meanwhile, the Musketeers were 11-of-19 from the line and 4-of-9 in the fourth quarter, including four straight misses at one point.

Taylor Drury led a balanced Musketeer attack with 11 points. Rachel Hamilton scored nine, Katie Ernstberger and Morgan Martin scored eight apiece and Bailey England contributed with six for Eastern (9-8, 3-4 MSC).

Led by Jlllian Romero’s 16 points, Scottsburg (12-5, 6-1) pulled within a half-game of MSC-leading Brownstown Central with the victory.
