• Red Devils down Charlestown: Visiting Jeffersonville picked up its first victory of the season with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-6 win on Thursday at Charlestown.
Mary Pat Geary led the Red Devils in kills and blocks, while teammate Jena Reinhardt topped Jeff in assists and service aces.
“We had an excellent offensive and defensive game tonight,” Jeff coach Renee Stock said. “Our girls were upbeat and had positive attitudes. It was nice to see them have fun and play hard.”
Lauren Crowe led the PIrates with four kills and three blocks.

• Dragons down Hornets: Host Silver Creek ousted West Clark rival Henryville on Thursday, 25-18, 25-15, 25-20.
Senior Courtney Rappe led the Hornets with five kills and three blocks. Also for Henryville, Cassidy Mull had four kills and three blocks, Kerri Cochran made four kills and Kelsey Johnson had 13 digs.
“I thought my girls did a great job tonight,” Hornets’ coach Shallon Hill said. “Silver Creek is an exceptional team and I’m definitely not disappointed in my team’s efforts and overall performance. My girls are working hard, learning and getting better every day.”

• Mustangs win opener: Caroline Ricks delivered 13 kills and five blocks to lead visiting New Washington past Madison Shawe in its season opener on Thursday, 25-10, 25-12, 25-16.
Teammate Courtney Amick had 14 assists and four service aces. Also for the Mustangs, seniors Kaitlyn Schindler and Ashley Johnson each made seven digs.

• Borden falls to Austin: Haley Shouse had eight digs, six assists, five kills and two blocks in Borden’s 19-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-13 loss to visiting Austin on Thursday.
Also for the Braves, Megan McNew had 12 assists and seven digs and McKenzie Owens made seven digs and four assists.
“We’re still learning, but we’ll be all right,” Borden coach Gary Timberlake said.
