HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sherrill scores lone run in C’town’s 1-0 win over NW

Webster throws fourth no-hitter in five games



• Red Devils defeat Jennings: Visiting Jeffersonville had four players each collect three hits in its 17-6 victory at Jennings County on Wednesday.

The Red Devils’ Nolan Fertig and Casey Gibson each went 3-for-4. Gibson had a triple, scored four runs and drove in two runs, while Fertig scored twice and had two RBIs.

Jeff’s Chandler Dale went 3-for-5 with three doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs, while teammate Damin Smith was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored. Red Devil junior Drew Ellis extended his hitting streak to 14 games by going 2-for-4 with three runs, while Jeff’s Nick Gallagher went 2-for-4.

Red Devil pitcher Matt Blackburn got the win in his first career varsity start. In four innings, Blackburn gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

“Matt pitched a great game, especially since it was his first varsity start,” Jeff coach Derek Ellis said. “I’m very proud of him and happy with the way we are swinging the bats and scoring runs.”

NEXT: Jeff (11-3) will host Evansville Central and Evansville Memorial, Saturday.

• Mustangs down Crothersville: Sophomore James Clemons allowed two earned runs on five hits in New Washington’s 7-2 victory over visiting Crothersville on Wednesday. Clemons struck out four and walked two.

Junior Dalton Bingham led the Mustangs at the plate, going 2-for-3. Teammate Joe Kehrwald was 2-for-4 with a double.

NEXT: New Washington (2-8, 1-3 Southern Athletic Conference) hosts Lanesville, today.


• Hornets win quad meet: Led by Luke Davidson’s 44, Henryville shot a 184 to win a quadrangular meet at Chariot Run Golf Course on Tuesday. Rock Creek Academy’s Brett Castetler was the medalist with a 40.
