AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Post 42 stays unbeaten with 5-0 victory

Ruttle, Sunderhaus combine to pitch shut out

FLOYDS KNOBS — Garrett Ruttle and Cody Sunderhaus combined to pitch a shut out and helped Floyds Knobs Post 42 improve to 10-0 with a 5-0 victory over Hoosier Express from Santa Claus on Tuesday.

Ruttle (1-0) — a Floyd Central graduate — threw the first five innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five. Sunderhaus, who also recently graduated from Floyd, finished with four strong inning. He surrendered a single hit and struck out four Hoosier Express batters.

“Garrett and Cody threw the ball exceptionally well and [catcher] Drew Kissel did a great job behind the plate with those guys,” Post 42 manager Ricky Romans said. “Defensively, we turned a couple of double plays and took care of the routine plays.”

Offensively, Floyd Central grad and Anderson University signee Derek DeSpain went 2 for 5 with a double, a triple, a run and a pair driven in. North Harrison graduate Tyler Cockerham, who has signed with Hanover, also knocked in two runs.
