H.S. ROUNDUP: Cook throws no-hitter against Austin

Jeff baseball rallies to beat Seymour

SELLERSBURG — Silver Creek pitcher Cameron Cook did something on Thursday not too many pitchers are fortunate to ever do.

Cook tossed a no-hitter against the visiting Austin Eagles. The strong performance earned Cook his second win of the season and propelled the Class 3A No. 4 Dragons to a 10-0 victory over Austin.

“Cameron Cook had a good night on the mound,” said Silver Creek coach Scott Jennings. “It was a good night, not a great night. The best part was he battled. He was not super sharp. Austin has a good ballclub and they play the game the right way. We have a ton of respect for them. If they came back tomorrow, they would come to win and they might beat us 10-0. Austin had an off night and we had a good night on the mound and at the plate.”

Cook carried the Dragons through five innings not allowing a single run. He walked two but struck out eight during his dominance.

Offensively, the Dragons swung the bats well. Although not much was needed, Silver Creek provided its pitcher with a load of run support. The Dragons’ Logan Murphy was perfect at the dish going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Silver Creek’s Brahm Whittinghill was 2-for-3 with a triple, a RBI, and crossed home two times. Teammate Brooks Howell was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Silver Creek moves to 4-2 on the season and are 2-0 in the Mid-Southern Conference. The Dragons will play at New Washington today.
