H.S. ROUNDUP: Silver Creek baseball clubs Mustangs, 13-1

Charlestown softball beats Commodores in seventh

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Silver Creek baseball team jumped on host New Washington early on Friday afternoon and never looked back in a 13-1, five-inning victory.

The Class 3A No. 4 Dragons scored nine runs in the top of the first inning. After the Mustangs plated a run in the bottom half, Silver Creek added four more runs to go up by 12.

Brahm Whittinghill led Silver Creek at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Teammate Braydon Ware ended up 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Also for the Dragons (5-2), Shae Durham was 2-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored, Logan Murphy went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Cody Razer was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Silver Creek’s Drew Sherrow was the winning pitcher. In three innings of work, he allowed one earned run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

“We had a good night offensively. Our kids have started swinging the bats a little,” Dragons’ assistant coach Scott Jennings said. “New Washington helped us out in the first with a few walks, but the kids put the ball on the ball also. Murphy made a small change [in his swing] and it has helped him the last three games at the plate. We had a chance to see some our players tonight in Gabe White, Shawn Pezzullo and Tyler Rogge.”

Silver Creek hosts Madison in a doubleheader today. New Washington will travel to Southwestern on Tuesday.
