CLARKSVILLE — After leading 1-0 over Silver Creek at the half in Wednesday’s Class A Providence Sectional semifinals, the host Pioneers exploded for four goals in the second half to advance to Saturday’s sectional title game.

“Silver Creek played us well in the first half,” Providence coach Brandon Rogers said. “Our play and intensity picked up in the second half.”

“We kept up with them in the first half,” Silver Creek coach Colin Bell reiterated. “Providence wanted it more in the second half and created a number of good opportunities.”

Andrew Wimp scored three times and Pierce Crawley had a goal and three assists for the victorious Pioneers.

Wimp opened the scoring in the 10th minute on an assist from Crawley, but the Dragons shut Providence down the rest of the way in the first half.

However, Crawley scored three minutes into the second half to start the onslaught. Fourteen minutes later, Wimp made it 3-0 and three minutes after that, he gave Providence a 4-0 advantage. Crawley assisted on both goals.

Evan Hollkamp put Silver Creek away with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute.

Jeff Wiles had four saves for the Pioneers and was assisted by strong defensive play by Logan Rauck, Cody Schrank, Tommy Davis and Nick Reas.

Silver Creek keeper John Osterhoudt had 15 saves for the contest.

“[Osterhoudt] kept us in teh game,” Bell said. “We just weren’t able to match their intensity and we lacked creativity going forward. Hats off to Providence. They deserve the win.”

Providence will get another shot at Christian Academy on Saturday. Last season, the Warriors beat the Pioneers 2-0 for the sectional crown.

CAI DOMINATES COUGARS

Minho Lee scored a pair of first-half goals as Christian Academy advanced to the sectional championship for the second straight season.

The Warriors, who won their first sectional title last season, are hoping to repeat as champions for the first time in school history.

“It’s good to at least have a shot at another sectional championship,” CAI coach Will Lorigan said. “We’ll have to bring our A-game and hopefully we can pull off another good result. We think we have the players to win, if we play our best. We truly have to lift our games.”

Lee scored in the eighth minute to get the Warriors on the board then gave them a cushion with another tally in the 25th minute.

John Park gave CAI a 3-0 lead with a goal 10 minutes into the second half.

“Tonight’s game was hard,” Lorigan said. “We played well at times and we dominated at times.”
