H.S. GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Bulldogs fall to Seymour, 63-55

Knight, Camm lead New Albany with double-figure games

NEW ALBANY — New Albany suffered a tough Hoosier Hills Conference home loss Thursday at the hands of the Seymour Owls, 63-55.

The final conference game of the season was there for New Albany to take, but the Bulldogs let it slip away in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs came into the fourth with the momentum on their side but Seymour was determined to leave the Doghouse with the victory.

New Albany was clicking on offense and started getting better looks and was heating up from long range. Seymour responded to every New Albany run, and in crunch time, had a answer for every big bucket the Bulldogs got.

Both teams got off to a slow start. With a first quarter full of turnovers and missed shots, Seymour took a sloppy two-point lead at 10-8 at the end of the opening period.

Play picked up in the second quarter and both teams started putting points on the board. Jessica Knight got hot for New Albany knocking down two 3s helping the Bulldogs to a 13-point quarter. Seymour’s Morgan Ritz caught fire of her own hitting three 3s to givew the Owls a 27-21 lead at the half.

The third quarter was New Albany’s best. The Bulldogs picked up their intensity on defense and held the Owls to just eight points. Lauren Camm carried the offense for the Bulldogs scoring five or her 11 points in the quarter.

New Albany cut into the Seymour lead and was able to hold on and head into the fourth just trailing by two, 35-33.

Brittany Knight led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Lauren Camm finished with 11 and Jenna Shine had 10 in the loss.

Seymour was led by Morgan Ritz’s 16 points and three boards.

New Albany (7-11) will be back in action on Saturday at Evansville Bosse.
