    Meet notes: Charlestown senior Megan Brooks broke her own school records in the shot put and the discus. She finished third in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 9 inches. She was fifth in the discus with a toss of 128-5.

    Charlestown coach Kim Carroll: “Megan threw against some of the best throwers in the state, including last year’s discus state champion [Lawrence Central’s Adriana Brown]. It was an exciting day for Megan to break two school records in both shot put and discus.”

    Next: Charlestown hosts Pirate Relays, Wednesday.

    Tournament notes: Floyd broke open the championship game against Castle with a five-run fourth. All five runs crossed the plate with two outs.

    Floyd Central JV coach Dennie Jenkins: “It was great to see the girls play with passion and have fun in the game as they came together to build throughout the day. It’s early in the season and today we were able to learn from our miscues in order to become a better team. I think today the girls learned how much fun it can be to come together as a unit and compete as one. For me as a coach, that’s what it’s all about.”
