H.S. ROUNDUP: FC finishes sixth, Providence eighth in Bloomington

Charlestown shuts out Southwestern

BLOOMINGTON — In the Bloomington North Invitational on Saturday, the Floyd Central boys’ golf team finished sixth and Providence finished in eighth at the Indiana University Golf Course.

Floyd Central was led by Jack Sparrow, who finished in the top three overall. Sparrow’s 2-over-par 73 was the second-lowest score on the day and earned him a tie as the runner-up. David Shepard shot a 77, while Clayton Crum and Connor Welch each carded an 82 for the Highlanders.

Kevin Crone was the Pioneers’ ace and his 74 was just three strokes off of the medalist. Teammate Mitchell Allender shot a 79, Evan Wilson posted an 83 and Erich Day rounded out the team scoring with an 87.

“We did just fine up front,” Providence coach Ken Allender said. “We are having trouble getting four guys to play good at the same time. We finished eighth but I feel like we should of finished third or fourth. Overall, I thought we played well enough. I am pleased.”

Floyd Central and Providence will play in the Big Four Tournament on Monday at Covered Bridge Golf Club at Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg.
