State champs, high scorers headline girls Top 60

Marcum lone local player to make the cut

INDIANAPOLIS — Six of Indiana’s top scorers and four girls players who led their teams to the state finals headline Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top 60 basketball camp this year.

Bailey Farley, who led Fort Wayne Canterbury to the Class 1A state title, and Ariana Simmons of Fort Wayne South, Dakota Weatherford of Hamilton Heights and Brittany Neeley of Eastern-Howard all made the list.

New Albany’s Tanner Marcum is the only local player who got an invitation to the workout. Other players of interest are Scottsburg’s Katie Wampler, Austin’s Jessie Davidson, Mikala Lomax of Columbus East, Evansville Bosse’s Janisha Lindsey.

Others attending camp include high-scoring players such as Kelsey Key of Frankton and Jill Morrison of Winchester, Purdue recruit Bridget Perry and Notre Dame recruit Taya Reimer.

The camp will be held Sunday at Marian University in Indianapolis. The girls from northern and southern Indiana will work out from 1 to 3 p.m., with the central Indiana invitees going from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $7.

MARCUM, TINSLEY EARN IBCA/SUBWAY ALL-STATE HONORS

New Albany’s Tanner Marcum and Silver Creek’s Alex Tinsley were each earned honorable mention honors for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway girls’ basketball All-State team.

Kaitlyn Henning of Charlestown, Brooke Hinton of Floyd Central, Ashley Johnson of New Washington and Haley Vogen of Jeffersonville were each named honorable mention Underclass All-State.

JUNIOR ALL-STARS NAMED

Indiana’s Junior All-Star girls were named on Wednesday, led by Columbus North guard Taylor Goodall.

The other “core six” players, who will play against the Indiana All-Stars and the Kentucky Junior All-Stars in both head-to-head matchups, are Homestead’s Sydney Buck, Fort Wayne Canterbury’s Kindell Fincher, Whitney Jennings of Logansport, Erica Moore of Mt. Vernon (Fortville) and Maura Muensterman of Evansville Mater Dei.

The head coach for the 2013 girls Junior All-Stars will be Michelle Harter of Warsaw. She will be assisted by Austin’s Jared Peterson and Tod Windlan of Hamilton Heights.

Two Lawrence North players — Ana Owens and Destiny Washington — highlight the South team. Mackenzie Campbell of Rushville, Danielle Cuttino of Ben Davis, Jenna Knepp of Barr-Reeve and Lauren Whitelatch of Bloomington South make up the remainder of the team that will face the Kentucky Junior All-Stars and the Indiana All-Stars when the team is playing in the Southern part of the state.

The dates and locations have yet to be named.

The North group players are Kayla Brown of Westfield, Nikki Grose of Warsaw, Jaclyn Heath of LaPorte, Kellie Kirkhoff of Roncalli, Morgan Olson of NorthWood and Courtney Smith of Fort Wayne Concordia.
