Vick helps Braves blow out Shoals

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Jeffersonville’s boys’ swim team beat Mt. Vernon (Posey) and Terre Haute North at Saturday’s North Invitational to give coach Keith Gast his 500th head-to-head win as the Red Devil coach.

Timothy “T” Martin and Evan Shive each won a pair of individual events and teamed up to win a pair of relays for eighth-ranked Jeffersonville, which defeated Mt. Vernon 121-58 and the Patriots 128-55.

Martin won with sizzling early-season times of 22.48 in the 50-yard freestyle and 48.19 in the 100 free. Shive took the 100 butterfly in 53.22 and the 100 backstroke in 54.89. Martin and Shive combined with Tyler Sariscsany and Zach Griffis to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:18 and with Sariscsany and Max Weidekamp to take the 200 free relay.

Weidekamp, who was the 100 breaststroke winner in 1:06.06, helped Jeff’s 200 medley relay team to a victory with Zach Daily, Cameron Simcoe and Griffis.

BORDEN — The defending state champs still reside in Borden and the Braves reminded Shoals of that on Saturday.

Led by Garrett Vick, Borden crushed Shoals to the tune of 71-41 in convincing fashion.

Vick scored a game-high 15 points in the rout and was 10 of 10 from the free throw line.

“We shot well from the free throw line tonight.” Borden coach Doc Nash said. “We had a well balanced attack ended with five guys scoring eight or more points.”

Borden (2-0) also had seven guys with five or more points, three of which scored over 10, and as a team, it hit 25 of their 28 free throws. Kyle Kruer and Cody Craddoc scored 10 points apiece for the Braves.
