HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Floyd Central jumps Edgewood, 6-3

BEDFORD — The Floyd Central softball team picked up a win in the opening game of the Bedford North Lawrence Tournament with a 6-3 result over Edgewood (3-1) on Friday.

The Highlanders scored five of their six runs in the first inning of the contest, thanks to five straight hits with two outs.

“Everybody hit in the first inning, and any time that happens, it’s got to be a lift,” Floyd coach Joe Witten said. “So it was good after the long road trip, getting off the bus and competing like that was great.”

Katelin Dreher led the Floyd Central offense with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Also for the Highlanders, Taylor McClure also was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Samantha Feather was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.

Floyd Central pitcher Morgan Harper got her first win of the season on the mound, while teammate Caroline Cato recorded a save.

“We didn’t quite finish as strong as we wanted to, but we got enough runs to win,” Witten said.

Floyd Central (3-0) returns to Bedford today to face Eastern Greene at 11:45 a.m.
