FLOYDS KNOBS —
Class 4A No. 1 Floyd Central stayed undefeated with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Columbus North baseball team on Friday at Highlander Field. The game was called after five innings because of rain.
Floyd Central sophomore starting pitcher Brandon Smith got the win to up his record to 3-0. He gave up the Bull Dogs’ lone run on four hits in four innings of work.
“We had three games this week and our goal was to win all three of them,” Highlanders’ coach Casey LaDuke said. “They’re a good program.”

• Bulldogs win at Bloomington South: Freshman A.J. Nixon went 3-for-4 and teammates Tucker Marcum and Tanner Robison each were 2-for-3 in New Albany’s 7-3 victory on Friday at Bloomington South.
The Bulldogs’ Garrett Sherrell was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs (both earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. He was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, while New Albany’s Brady Parr was 2-for-4.
The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to eight games.

• Braves keep undefeated record intact: Abby Ellis and Sarah Hurst each won their singles matches to lead host Borden past Southwestern on Friday, 3-2. The Braves’ No. 2 doubles team of Bailee Kruer and McKenzie Owens prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, helping Borden stay undefeated.
NEXT: Borden (10-0) will host Charlestown, Monday.
TRACK AND FIELD
• Borden boys, Providence girls second in Faulkner Relays: The Borden boys’ team finished second in the Daniel Faulkner Relays on Thursday at Clarksville High School. The Braves tallied 75 points, two points behind meet winner Salem.
Borden took first place in the 3,200-meter relay, 300 hurdles, distance medley relay and discus. The Braves set new meet records in the 3,200 relay and distance medley relay.
The Providence girls’ team placed second with 83 points, seven behind first-place Madison. The Pioneers won the sprint medley relay, varsity 400 relay, freshmen combo 400 relay, 800 relay, freshmen combo 1,600 relay and varsity 1,600 relay.
NEXT: Borden will host Southern Athletic Conference meet, Tuesday and Thursday; Providence will host Christian Academy and Trinity Lutheran, Tuesday.
