H.S. GIRLS' TENNIS: Sectionals could be determined on Thursday

Providence vs. Jeff, possible Creek-Borden matchup highlight big day

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — As the IHSAA girls’ tennis sectionals were announced Monday, one thing was clear: Thursday is going to be a big day.

The much-anticipated showdown between Providence and the host Red Devils is set for the first round at the Jeffersonville Sectional on Thursday. Silver Creek drew a first-round bye on Wednesday and will likely face 13-0 Borden in the semifinals at Creek on Thursday. The Braves will play South Central in Wednesday’s first-round match.

The first champion also will be crowned on Thursday. Host New Albany will face Lanesville, and Christian Academy and Corydon Central will meet in Wednesday’s semifinals, with the winners playing for the championship on Thursday.

The winner of the Jeff-Providence match will face either Clarksville or New Washington in the championship. The Red Devils have won three straight sectional crowns and they edged the Pioneers 3-2 on April 8.

At Silver Creek, the host Dragons, Borden or South Central will advance to play either Charlestown or Henryville for the championship. The Dragons have won 10 consecutive sectional championships.

The Floyd Central Sectional will begin Wednesday with one match. The hosts and 12-time defending champion Highlanders will face Eastern.
