INDIANAPOLIS — The New Albany and Floyd Central baseball teams have been guaranteed a third meeting against each other this season.

The IHSAA set up the third matchup between the Highlanders and the Bulldogs on Tuesday when it conducted its blind draw for the 47th annual baseball state tournament.

Class 4A No. 10 New Albany (18-6) and Class 4A No. 1 Floyd Central (25-1) will face each other in the second first-round game of the Class 4A Bedford North Lawrence Sectional at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. Seymour will play the host Stars in the sectional opener at 5 p.m. on the 23rd.

The first-round winners will square off in the first semifinal at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, which is Memorial Day. The second semifinal on the 27th will be about 12:30 p.m. when Class 4A No. 8 Jeffersonville (15-3) plays Jennings County. The championship will be at 6 p.m. on the 27th.

Floyd Central has won both matchups with the Bulldogs this season. On April 10, the Highlanders defeated host New Albany in the first meeting at Mount Tabor Field, 10-5.

The second matchup happened last week in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament at Mount Tabor Field. The Bulldogs blew a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, as Floyd Central scored five runs in the frame to prevail 6-2.

The Red Devils have been on fire as of late. They are on an 12-game winning streak, which is their longest string of victories since 1998. Their latest triumph came last Saturday when they defeated visiting Floyd Central in the HHC Tournament final at Don Poole Field, 1-0. It was Jeff’s second HHC Tourney title in a row.

The Red Devils have defeated Jennings County three times this season, including a 2-0 win over the Panthers in the first round of the conference tourney last week.

CLASS 3A NORTH HARRISON SECTIONAL

The North Harrison Sectional is expected to be one of the most competitive sectionals in Class 3A. The field includes three teams ranked in the latest Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A top-10 poll.

Two-time defending sectional champion Silver Creek (18-6) received the only first-round bye in the sectional. The Class 3A No. 5 Dragons will face the winner of next Wednesday’s sectional opener between North Harrison and Salem in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. on the 27th.

Class 3A No. 6 Charlestown (18-6) will take on Scottsburg in the second first-round contest at approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 23. The winner of that game will play either Class 3A No. 8 Brownstown Central or Corydon Central, which received honorable-mention votes in the 3A poll, in the second semi at 1:30 p.m. on the 27th.

The championship game will be at 7 p.m. on the 27th.

CLASS 2A PROVIDENCE SECTIONAL

A rematch of last year’s Class 2A Providence Sectional final between the host Pioneers (15-7) and Eastern highlights this year’s Class 2A sectional.

Providence and the defending sectional champion Musketeers will meet in the second semi at about 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25. Eastern defeated the Pioneers in last year’s sectional final, 6-5.

The teams met each other on April 2 at Eastern with the Pioneers coming out on top 11-2.

Henryville (13-6) and Clarksville will have their own sectional rematch at about 7 p.m. next Wednesday as they will meet in the second first-round game. The sectional opener will be at 5 p.m. next Wednesday when Paoli takes on Crawford County. The first-round winners will square off in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. on the 25th.

The Generals rolled past the Hornets in last year’s first-round sectional contest in five innings, 12-1. But Henryville swept a home doubleheader versus Clarksville on April 13 by scores of 10-1 and 16-6.

The sectional final will be at 7:30 p.m. on the 25th.

CLASS A LANESVILLE SECTIONAL

Borden (7-8) and New Washington will square off in the first semifinal of the Class A Lanesville Sectional at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 24. The Southern Athletic Conference rivals played each other on Tuesday at New Washington.

Rock Creek Academy will play in the second semifinal at about 7 p.m. on the 24th against either the host Eagles or Class A No. 4 South Central. The Harrison County rivals will face each other in the sectional opener at 5 p.m. on the 23rd.

The championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 25.
