GIRLS' TENNIS SECTIONALS: Jeff gets by game Generals 3-2 for title

Floyd, Creek cruise to sectional crowns

Sixth-ranked Floyd Central dropped just three games to beat Salem 5-0 for its 13th sectional title in a row and its 26th in program history.

“We’ve only had three or four girls who have won a sectional, so this is a big event for us,” Floyd coach Rick Miller said. “Anybody who wins a sectional in any sports at any place in any state, it’s special. We don’t take anything for granted.

Olivia Boesing at No. 1 singles and Alex Jamison at No. 3 singles both won 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles player Alexis Applegate and both Highlander doubles teams gave up just one game apiece.

“We’re pleased but we’re not satisfied,” Miller said. “Now we want to go win regional and semistate.”
