CLASS 2A SEYMOUR SEMISTATE: Bluiett, Panthers oust Generals, 76-64

Park Tudor senior scores 36 to help the Panthers to fourth finals in five years

SEYMOUR — The Class 2A No. 2 Clarksville Generals matched No. 1 Park Tudor’s effort and intensity on Saturday afternoon at Scott Gym.

Unfortunately, they did not match the Panthers’ execution and firepower.

On the strength of a double-double from Mr. Basketball candidate Trevon Bluiett, Park Tudor defeated Clarksville at the Class 2A Seymour Semistate on Saturday, 76-64. It was the Panthers’ fourth semistate championship in five years.

Park Tudor (23-4) will vie for its third Class 2A state title in four years next Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as it faces unranked Westview (23-4) in the 2A state championship game. The Warriors defeated seventh-ranked Cass (22-3) in Saturday’s Class 2A Huntington North Semistate, 65-58. Westview won back-to-back 2A state championships in 1999 and 2000.

“We’re back in the state finals and we’re excited about that,” first-year Park Tudor coach Kyle Cox said. “Our season is one week older. We’ve been there a few times, so we know what it means [to play in the state championship game]. It’s right down the street from us. The guys will get to sleep in their own beds. It should be fun. You want these guys to enjoy it.”

Saturday’s loss ended one of the best seasons in Clarksville boys’ basketball history.

The Generals (23-3) captured a share of the Mid-Southern Conference championship, won their second consecutive sectional title and claimed their first regional crown in program history.

Clarksville says goodbye to six seniors – D.J. Coleman, Keigan Fetz, Andrew Jones, Calvin McEwen, Marquise Parrish and Aham Yennes – who helped turn the Generals into one of the top 2A programs in the state the past few years.

“I’m very upset to be losing these seniors,” fourth-year Clarksville coach Jason Connell said. “They are not just basketball players. They are really good kids.”
