COLLEGE ATHLETICS: Leanhart named KIAC Pitcher of the Week

Wallace earns KIAC tennis honor

NEW ALBANY — IU Southeast freshman Jessica Leanhart was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week by KIAC officials on Monday. This is her third pitcher of the week award of the season.

Leanhart earned her fifth win of the season in the Grenadiers’ 4-3 win against Calumet College of St. Joseph. The freshman pitched all seven innings and only allowed one earned run while striking out nine Calumet batters. She is currently fourth in the KIAC with a 3.93 earned-run average and leads the conference in batters struck out per game with 7.46.

IU Southeast is 10-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Grenadiers will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Ohio Christian for a doubleheader.

WALLACE EARNS KIAC HONORS

IU Southeast sophomore Trent Wallace was named the KIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week by KIAC officials on Monday. This is his second player of the week honor this season.  

IU Southeast won its only contest of the week, defeating Brescia University 7-2. Wallace won his No. 2 singles match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and his No. 3 doubles match, 8-3. Wallace improves his singles record to 5-2 on the season.

The Grenadiers are currently 3-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They will return to action on Saturday when they play Alice Lloyd College and Berea College.
