H.S. SWIMMING: Highlanders sweep Providence

Both FC teams pick up wins after defeating BNL

GEORGETOWN — Both the Floyd Central girls’ and boys’ swimming teams prevailed in their respective dual meets against visiting Providence on Monday night at Highland Hills Middle School.

The Highlander girls beat the Pioneers (153-20), while the Floyd Central boys’ team downed Providence (149-8).

In the girls’ meet, Meg Taylor, Maryn Meldrum and Amy McCormick each won two individual races for the Highlanders. Taylor was first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Meldrum prevailed in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, while McCormick won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Also winning for Floyd Central were Sydney Baumann (diving), Layah Jones (100 butterfly) and Lauren Batliner (100 breaststroke). The Highlanders swept the three relay events.

Providence finished second in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The Pioneers’ highest individual finish was Annemarie Carney in the 100 backstroke.

In the boys’ meet, Floyd Central’s Oscar Anderson, Eli Anderson and Kyle Crater were each a multiple winner.

Oscar Anderson won the 50 and 100 freestyles, while Eli Anderson prevailed in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Crater was first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Other first-place finishers for the Highlanders were Marc McCormick (200 IM), Dylan Nichols (diving), Noble Guyon (100 breaststroke) and all three relay teams.

Providence’s best finish was fourth place in three events. Josh Hughes was fourth in both the 50 and 100 freestyles, while Nathan Marriott placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

Last Saturday, both Floyd Central teams defeated Bedford North Lawrence. The Highlander girls won 144-42, while the Floyd boys prevailed 129-57.

In the girls’ meet, Taylor won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke along with helping Floyd Central take first in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Meldrum earned first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. McCormick was first in the 100 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

In the boys’ meet, Oscar Anderson won the 200 and 500 freestyles and helped the 200 free relay team prevail. Carter was first in the 50 and 100 freestyles and 400 free relay.
