H.S. GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Christian Academy comes up short at Lanesville, 44-35

Eagles outscore Warriors by 19 points at stripe

LANESVILLE — The Christian Academy girls’ basketball team fell to host Lanesville 44-35 in a tightly contested matchup on Thursday.

Christian Academy kept things close throughout the game but was unable to pull out the victory on the road. The biggest problem for the Warriors was the fact that their defense broke down several times and bailed Lanesville out by fouling.

“We played hard, but we have got to stop putting people on the line.” Christian Academy assistant coach Scott Huffaker said. “We got to play better defense and stop giving teams opportunities on the free-throw line.”

Lanesville shot 27 free throws, making 16 of them. Christian Academy (1-5) shot only eight foul shots, as it converted five of those attempts. With Lanesville (1-1) receiving 19 more free throws than Christian Academy, the Warriors were lucky Lanesville never pulled away.

Lanesville received a steady scoring output from its team. Jessica Deweese led the charge with 11 points. Emma Zeller added nine. Erica Drolly had eight, Anna Darsons had seven and Mahaley Hall scored six, giving the Eagles 41 points among those five players.

Junior Allison Burch led the Warriors with a game-high 14 points. Rachel Wright added seven points and tallied the team’s lone assist. Brittany Moffett scored four points, but did grab a team-high nine rebounds in the Warrior loss.

Christian Academy will be back in action on Saturday when it hits the road to take on Clarksville.
