FC’s Rossetto makes All-State first team

Memphis — Floyd Central No. 1 singles player Giorgia Rossetto has been selected to the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Girls’ All-State singles first team.

The junior foreign exchange student from Italy had a 25-2 singles record last season. Rossetto helped lead the Highlanders to championships in the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament, the Floyd Central Sectional, the Floyd Central Regional and the Jasper Semistate.

The Highlanders made their second consecutive trip to the IHSAA State Finals, falling to eventual state champion Carmel 5-0.

Silver Creek No. 1 singles player Kat Hebble earned a spot on the IHSTECA Girls’ All-State singles second team. The senior compiled a 22-3 singles record in 2014.

Hebble won the Floyd Central individual singles sectional title. At the Bedford North Lawrence individual regional, she defeated Princeton’s Emily Pedigo in the semifinals (6-0, 6-0), but lost to Bloomington South’s Denise Azcui in the championship match (6-2, 6-2). Azcui proceeded to win the state singles championship.

Floyd Central’s No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Alex Jamison and junior Erin Patterson made the All-State doubles second team. The duo went 18-5 this past season.

Three area singles players and two area doubles teams received honorable-mention votes. The singles players were Floyd Central senior Dana Frank, Highlander junior Alexis Applegate and Jeffersonville senior Emily Lewis. The doubles tandems were Jeff’s Rachel Williams and Libby West and Silver Creek’s Kelsi Scott and Morgan Sharp.

All the area’s All-State singles and double players and honorable-mention selections made the All-IHSTECA District 8 team. The District 8 Coach of the Year award went to Floyd Central’s Rick Miller.


New Albany senior Lauren Hoffer has been selected to the IHSTECA Academic All-State team. Also making the team was Scottsburg’s Lauren Howser.

Seven area players earned spots on the honorable-mention list. They were Frank, Hebble, Lewis, Sharp and Providence seniors Brianna Jacobi, Katelyn Koopman and Elizabeth Short.
