Portable toilets cause I-65 pileup and injuries

CLARK COUNTY Interstate 65 traffic southbound was a mess Monday morning, more than usual.

At approximately 6:33 a.m., a Rumpke Sanitation Company truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with portable toilets lost its cargo near mile marker three.

This caused a chain reaction crash involving seven cars and injuring five people.

When the toilets landed on the roadway, the driver of a 2000 Ford Aero Star van hit one of the portable toilets. As the driver was stopping to pull over due to the crash, vehicles behind him started rear-ending each other as they tried to stop. Seven cars ended up being involved in the crash with five people injured from those cars.

All of the injured were transported to the Clark County Hospital and none of the injuries were life threatening or serious. Five people from Gary were injured as well as a Jose Aldana of Louisville.

Clarksville Police Department, Clarksville Fire Department and Clark County Emergency Services assisted in the cleanup.
