Let the bells ring: Town Clock Church to be highlighted during celebration

(Continued)

NEW ALBANY —

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a memorial service specifically in honor of Floyd County veterans.

There will be live music from 7 to 9:30 p.m. followed by a fireworks display. There will be activities for kids as well as vintage cars to be viewed.

The event is free to attend. Joe Kraft Park is located off West Seventh Street.

FIREWORKS PERMITS REQUIRED

Board of Works President Warren Nash said he’s noticed only a few of the vendors in New Albany have appeared before the body requesting a permit to sell fireworks.

City Attorney Stan Robison said that’s a violation of  New Albany’s codes.

“They’re supposed to come to this board for approval of any firework sales,” he said.

However, with only a few days remaining in the summer fireworks season, Robison said really the only option is to send letters to the vendors the city knows are in violation of the rule.
