A SMOKIN' SETUP: Vendors descend on Jeffersonville for tasty festival

JEFFERSONVILLE — Smokin' on the River BBQ, Blues and Brew Festival merchants and competitors began assembling their stations on Riverside Drive in downtown Jeffersonville Thursday afternoon. The festival, which runs Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, will benefit Jesus Cares at Exit 0, a ministry for the homeless in Jeffersonville.

The festival features barbecue competitions and food for sale, blues music and craft brews. It takes place around RiverStage at the Ohio River.

Here's the schedule:

Smokin’ on the River schedule

FRIDAY

4 p.m.: Barbecue tasting tent, craft beer tent and food vendors open. Tasting tent costs: $5 for three samples of barbecue; $5 for four samples of craft beer.

RiverStage

5 p.m.: D Men & the Alley Hounds

6:15 p.m.: The KingBees

7:30 p.m. Ray Fuller & the Bluesrockers

9 p.m.: Mississippi Heat

Tasting Tent (next to Cluckers restaurant)

6 to 9 p.m.: Laurie Jessup & Cout Duggins

SATURDAY

11 a.m.: Barbecue tasting tent, craft beer tent and food vendors open. Tasting tent costs: $5 for three samples of barbecue; $5 for four samples of craft beer.

5 p.m.: River City Blues Band

6:15 p.m.: Boscoe France Band

7:30 p.m.: Michael Gough Group

9 p.m.: Stacy Mitchhart

Tasting Tent (next to Clucker’s restaurant)

2 to 5 p.m.: D.J. Rice

6 to 9 p.m.: Craig Brenner

Students of the Renaissance Academy's inaugural freshman class placed the final piece of the puzzle on a presentation board at the opening ceremony in Clarksville Tuesday morning. The students, or learners as termed by the RA, will play an integral role in their own education, using hands-on and project based curriculum to learn new information.
