New road paving the way for businesses in Sellersburg

Commons area a site for commercial buildings

SELLERSBURG — The town of Sellersburg is setting the stage for more businesses.

Ongoing construction is clearing a new road along off Ind. 311 near Interstate 65 — directly across from the Indiana State Police Post — to create a new business commons area.

The road, which has about 600 feet and three months under its belt, will be called Camp Run Parkway and will run through the new area called Camp Run Commons.

Mike Hostetler, president of the Sellersburg Redevelopment Commission, said an ARC Construction crew is in the process of clearing space along the road to host potential commercial activity.

“What we’re hoping for is to get some business in there and provide some jobs for our community,” he said. “Sellersburg is probably going to be one of the fastest growing towns in Indiana in the next five to 10 years.”

Hostetler said Camp Run Parkway should be completed in some time in March.

“The weather really held us back,” Hostetler said of the construction crew, who has had to work on and off over the winter months. “They’ve had a chore up there to get that road in.”

Just off of I-65 and home to an airport and recently declared a Tax Increment Fund area, the town is the logical place for further development, Hostetler said.

“Sellersburg’s the next stop,” he said.

Plans are also in the works for a road running through Ivy Tech Community College connecting the police post to reduce traffic congestion at the intersection of Ind. 311 and Enterprise Way and give drivers easier access to both institutions.
