Clarksville police make another pot arrest

CPD says man on Alta Drive was growing marijuana outside

CLARKSVILLE — A Clarksville man was arrested after officers found nearly 60 marijuana plants at his home Tuesday, police said.

Dwayne Price, 50, of the 200 block of Altra Drive, faces multiple drug felony charges after Clarksville police conducted a search warrant at his home late Tuesday morning. After receiving an anonymous tip of illegal drug activity, officers found marijuana plants growing in a detached garage and an outdoor garden at Price’s address.

Clarksville Police Narcotics Squad Detective Cpl. Joel DeMoss said he was able to get a vantage point of the marijuana plants growing in Price’s garden from a neighbor’s home. DeMoss said Price noticed him looking into his yard and came outside of his residence.

“He knew what we were there for and gave us permission to search the property, but we went ahead and first obtained the search warrant anyway,” DeMoss said.

DeMoss said there were also 30 grams of marijuana found on the property being dried for consumption. Officers also discovered at the property photos Price had allegedly taken of plants growing in his garage from a previous year and instructional marijuana-cultivation magazines.

Price was preliminarily charged with maintaining a common nuisance, a class B felony, and cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana — more than 30 grams, both class D felonies.

CPD has made several marijuana-growing related arrests in the past few weeks.
