11-year-old helps vets because of his grandpa
Jacob Wilkerson, 11, the son of Shannon Wilkerson and Trisha Day, presented a cash donation to the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 42, Floyds Knobs, to support the Veterans Furniture Fund. Jacob, who is a catcher for the Louisville Storm, said he was inspired to make the donation by his baseball hitting coach, Jay Sorg, who challenged him to find a charity he believed in and support the charity. Then, he was to write an essay telling what the charity did and why. Jacob chose to support veterans because of his grandpa, Cletus Day, a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran, who is a member of American Legion Post 42. Ann Carr, treasurer of Unit 42, receives the donation from Jacob, who is accompanied by his mother and father and grandfather, Cletus Day.
