A 19-year-old from New Albany was shot in the head early Thursday morning, but is expected to survive, according to police.

New Albany Police Department Chief Todd Bailey said Bryant Te’Shawn Harris was shot just before 3:40 a.m. during a dispute outside Knobs Pointe Apartments, at 2702 Paoli Pike. Harris flagged down a car and got a ride to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

Harris was described as conscious and alert and appeared to be in good condition. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.

Bailey said they want to speak to a person in connection with the shooting, but they are not yet identifying that person or calling him a suspect.

“It’s not some random act of violence,” Bailey said. “We’re not combing the area for some unknown shooter. We have a person in mind.”

Police say there is no evidence of drug activity at this time. Because of when the shooting occurred, they do not believe there were any witnesses. It is still unclear what led to the shooting.

“There was some sort of dispute. I don’t know what the nature of the dispute was,” Bailey said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call NAPD at 812-948-5317 or the anonymous tip line at 812-948-NAPD.
