NEW ALBANY — The theme for Second Baptist Church’s 2019 Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15, is “The Unseen Man” which tells the story of how black male slaves were removed from their families, many to never to see their family again.

The event in the Community Garden, in the rear of the church at 300 E. Main St., is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will focus on young boys growing into men. The goal according to organizers is to reaffirm let the community know that even though the black man is unseen he is no longer the “Invisible Man!”

Participants will be singing freedom songs from former slaves. There will be food and face painting for the kids, Underground Railroad tours and so much more. The video of the church from Indiana Landmarks following the “Cook Cup Award” will be shown. All are welcome. This event is for the community and there will be no charge to the men for dinner but donations will be accepted from the women.
