A special-education program coordinator has been named as the administrative intern for Grant Line and Mount Tabor Elementary schools by the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp. board of trustees.

Scott Hughes will be filling a vacancy created earlier this month when Theresa M. Duke was transferred to the principal position at Silver Street Elementary. The administrative change is the sixth in a series of transfers; changes started when former Assistant Superintendent Tony Bennett announced his departure over the summer.

Hughes has a master’s degree from IU Southeast, a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and is working to complete his administrative license in school administration at IUS.

He began his career as a special education teacher at Mount Tabor Elementary in 1989 and became a behavior support specialist in 1998. He began work as a program coordinator for Student Support Services in 2003.

“He is going to become an outstanding administrator and Mount Tabor and Grant Line are very glad to have him,” Superintendent Dennis Brooks said at Monday’s meeting.
