A body was pulled from the Ohio River by the New Albany Fire Department on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim is a white male, age 30 to 40, and has tentatively been identified as a missing person from Louisville, Floyd County Coroner Leslie Knable said.

An autopsy will be performed this morning, and the family will be notified by Louisville’s missing persons department, Knable said.

The victim’s identity will not be released until after the family is notified.

A deckhand at the R. Gallagher Generating Station near Jackson Street in New Albany reportedly saw him just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“They think he probably came up when they moved some of the barges,” Knable said.

She estimates he had been in the river at least two weeks. Authorities do not suspect foul play.

“As of now, we don’t think there is anything suspicious about it,” Knable said.

The New Albany Police Department and Department of Natural Resources also responded to the call.
