Jerry D. Rutherford, 60, of Scottsburg, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker on Monday after pleading guilty to three counts of tax evasion, according to a press release.

Rutherford admitted that he did not report a substantial amount of income he received during the years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 on his tax return, form 1040, he filed for each of those years. Rutherford owes between $200,000 and $400,000 in federal income tax, the exact amount of which will be determined by IRS examination in a civil proceeding.

Judge Barker also imposed three years supervised release following Rutherford’s release, according to assistant U.S. Attorney Joe H. Vaughn, who prosecuted the case for the government.
