Keith E. Stormes, who served as director of St. Elizabeth’s in New Albany for 10 years, was named executive director at LifeSpan Resources Inc., the organization announced Tuesday.

Stormes, 57, has been on the job about 11 days. He will replace

longtime director Patricia Howard, who is retiring at the end of the month.

Stormes left his post at St. Elizabeth’s earlier in the year after his wife accepted a job in Northern Indiana. However, he said the two were homesick for Southern Indiana, which brought them back. He said he has lived in Jeffersonville for more than 30 years.

“We were so homesick we couldn’t stand it,” he said. “And this opportunity opened up, so I took it.”

LifeSpan Resources is the designated area agency on aging for Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Scott counties. It was established in 1973 and is one of 16 regional agencies serving the state.

Stormes’ responsibilities include the development and coordination of programs and services, which enable older adults, and persons with disabilities of any age, to remain independent and in their own homes.

Some of the services offered include transportation, meals on wheels, in-home services, health screenings and information assistance.

“I will be serving a different population than I was, but serving the elderly has always been an interest of mine,” Stormes said. “I’m pretty excited to be serving a different segment of adults.”

He said he is trying to pick Howard’s brain before he officially takes over Sept. 1.
