CLARK COUNTY — A man who was a person of interest in an alleged arson case died Saturday from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds when approached by police.

Charles J. Croucher, 66, was found dead in his truck on Zimmerman Road in Clark County on Saturday after shooting himself while police were present, according to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Police put out a call for the public's help Friday in locating Croucher following a fire at a mobile home that morning at the 6600 block of Dave Carr Road. A description was given of Croucher and his truck, with instructions that public do not approach, but instead call police.

On Saturday, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on private property in the 9800 block of Zimmerman Road, the release states. Police heard two gunshots when they approached the truck, which matched the description of Croucher's. An officer opened the door and tried to disarm Croucher, and then held back for safety, attempting to communicate with him via central dispatch.

Officers then heard a third gunshot, and found Croucher dead in the truck.

An autopsy on Croucher was performed Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
