SCOTT COUNTY — Indiana State Police continue to investigate a Thursday night police pursuit in Scott County that left one person dead.
Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Office attempted to pull over 30-year-old Jesse Murphy shortly before 8 p.m., according to a news release. Murphy allegedly refused to stop and ran a red light at Lake Road and Ind. 56 in Scottsburg. Police say Murphy continued to drive recklessly and eventually got onto northbound Interstate 65.
Murphy reportedly tried to exit the interstate at Exit 34 in Austin when his car left the roadway and flipped several times. Murphy was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Murphy was suspected of being involved in an attempted theft at a business in Scottsburg right before the pursuit started.
