BOONVILLE — Floyds Knobs Post 42 lost an early lead, and its first game of the regional tournament Thursday night.
Host Boonville Post 200 rallied from a four-run deficit for an 11-7 win over Post 42. Floyds Knobs faces Rockport in an elimination game of the double-elimination tourney Friday night.
"We'll now have to win our next five games to advance to the State Finals in Rockport," Post 42 manager Chuck Latham said. "Odds are against us, but we'll see what we're made of."
Boonville took the early lead Thursday night, tallying two runs in the top of the first. Floyds Knobs responded with two in the bottom of the inning before tallying four more in the second.
Boonville pulled within 6-3 in the top of the third before Post 42 extended its advantage to four by pushing across another run in the fourth. That, however, was Floyds Knobs' final run.
Boonville plated two runs in the fifth to cut Post 42's lead in half, then scored three times in the sixth to go up 8-7. Post 200 tacked on three more runs in the seventh to increase its lead to four.
"We could only put together five hits in the game and they were pretty scattered," Latham said. "Our pitchers got behind hitters and Boonville did a terrific job of scoring with two outs. We had many opportunities to shut the door and just couldn't get it done. That's baseball, but fortunately it's a double-elimination format."
