NEW ALBANY — Providence defeated Henryville 7-0 for its seventh straight sectional championship Saturday at Christian Academy.

The 10-6 Pioneers scored four times in the final 11 minutes of the Class A sectional championship. Providence outscored its two sectional opponents 11-0 and now faces Vincennes Rivet in the semifinal round of the regional next Saturday at Murphy Stadium.

"This is step one. Next is step two. Eventually, we'll get all the way," Providence senior Austin Hughes said.

Providence came into the tournament as heavy favorites and dominated almost every moment of the sectional.

"As a team, we take nothing for granted," Hughes said. "We come to practice every day knowing every win, every trophy is a blessing."

Alex Lancaster scored an early goal in Saturday's championship, but Henryville (9-7) competed evenly with the Pioneers over the next 20 minutes. With 10:50 to go in the first half, William Lutgens' goal opened the floodgates. Luke Hesse scored twice and Billy Hoke added another goal to make it 5-0 at halftime. Isaac Coker and Evan Scott added goals in the second half for the 7-goal advantage.

Six different Pioneers got a shot past Henryville keeper Cody Wallis in the win.

"We're a very unselfish team," Pioneer senior Isaac Coker said. "At this point in the season, we're more concerned with winning than who scores. As long as the ball goes in the back of the net, no one cares who scores. We work the ball around very well. Our chemistry is showing right now."
